About Our School<\/p>\n

We are a happy and successful High School with a Sixth Form.\u00a0 We serve the whole community of Droitwich and its surrounding villages, making our intake socio-economically diverse, which our entire staff play up to and thrive upon.\u00a0 We use our House system alongside our academic work to create a sense of belonging, identity and recognition as well as ambition and optimism.<\/p>\n

About the Vacancy<\/p>\n

A current member of the team has a split specialism with History. Due to an internal promotion causing a shortage of hours in History this team member has chosen to work more closely with our History department.\u00a0 This means that we have a vacancy in the RS \/ Philosophy and Ethics team.<\/p>\n

Ideally, we would like to appoint to a contract of 0.6 but we are able, for a strong candidate, to make an appointment for 0.8 or even 1.0, especially if he\/she\/they could teach another subject to a good standard.\u00a0 Subjects that are particularly attractive to us at present are English, Geography, PSHE and Psychology and Sociology.<\/p>\n

There is, of course, a full job description and person specification available but the importance of being able to inspire young people both as a tutor and a teacher and a commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and to continuous professional development should not be underestimated.<\/p>\n

About our RS \/ Philosophy and Ethics Department<\/p>\n

The remainder two staff are both full time and are both skilled, innovative teachers with exemplary subject knowledge and who have a real passion for the value of the subject area.\u00a0 Led very well by the HoD, the curriculum in Year 8 and 9 is engaging and meaningful whilst also building a platform for success for those who want to study Religious Studies GCSE in KS4.\u00a0 Assessment is robust and supports students to make more progress.<\/p>\n

For many years, the skill and endeavour of the department meant that practically everyone sat the RS GCSE on just one hour a week, with incredibly impressive outcomes.\u00a0 Changes to the curriculum following the government reviews (particularly with respect to the assessments having a much smaller focus on ethics and much more knowledge recall about religions) have, unfortunately, meant that this is no longer a viable or desirable for all.\u00a0 Therefore, GCSE RS is an optional subject at KS4 and group numbers are good.\u00a0 Our first group of Year 11s where it has been an optional subject will take the exams this summer.\u00a0 They are following the AQA A specification with Sikhism as the focus religion.<\/p>\n

Numbers for Sixth Form are good (but small group sizes are retained).\u00a0 The value added in A Level Philosophy and Ethics last year over the last five years has been impressive; always above national averages and, in some years, considerably so.<\/p>\n
