About Our School<\/p>\n

We are a happy and successful High School with a Sixth Form.\u00a0 We serve the whole community of Droitwich and its surrounding villages, making our intake socio-economically diverse, which our entire staff play up to and thrive upon.\u00a0 We use our House system alongside our academic work to create a sense of belonging, identity and recognition as well as ambition and optimism.<\/p>\n

Our staff are talented and so incredibly supportive of one another.\u00a0 We have a new Headteacher who is determined to treasure the strengths of the school (we have a \u2018Good\u2019 OFSTED rating) as well being ready to address the areas where improvement is needed. \u00a0We have adapted our leadership team in order to secure faster progress towards our objectives and we are particularly excited about our plans to make our staff CPD something that other schools are envious of and can learn from.\u00a0 Our impact on our young people, both scholastically and pastorally, is profound, but we are committed to improving it further.<\/p>\n

About the Vacancy<\/p>\n

At present we have two part time vacancies.\u00a0 The first is for 0.6 of Geography and the second is for 0.6 of Religious Studies and Philosophy and Ethics.\u00a0 We would, however, make it work if someone could teach both of these subjects to a high standard on a full time contract.\u00a0 Please note, therefore, that this is not an extra vacancy.<\/p>\n

There is, of course, a full job description and person specification available for each of the jobs (see here: link 1 and link 2) \u00a0\u00a0The importance of being able to inspire young people both as a tutor and a teacher and a commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and to continuous professional development should not be underestimated.<\/p>\n

About our Geography and \u00a0RS \/ Philosophy and Ethics Departments<\/p>\n

The Geography department has a strong tradition of supportiveness; colleagues look out for one another and retain a strong sense of purpose.\u00a0 Every member of the team is a specialist.\u00a0 The curriculum is well considered and uses contemporary examples.\u00a0 A team with strong subject knowledge using engaging resources means that lessons are of good quality and students make good progress.<\/p>\n

At GCSE the students follow the AQA specification.\u00a0 It is a popular choice, with an average of 5 or 6 groups per year group.\u00a0 Progress in Geography has been respectable but there is room for improvement, particularly with disadvantaged pupils.<\/p>\n

Numbers for Sixth Form are good (but small group sizes are retained).\u00a0 The department uses the AQA specification.\u00a0 The value added in A Level Geography last year was particularly impressive and considerably above national averages.<\/p>\n

RS \/ Philosophy and Ethics<\/p>\n

The remainder two staff are both full time and are both skilled, innovative teachers with exemplary subject knowledge and who have a real passion for the value of the subject area.\u00a0 Led very well by the HoD, the curriculum in Year 8 and 9 is engaging and meaningful whilst also building a platform for success for those who want to study Religious Studies GCSE in KS4.\u00a0 Assessment is robust and supports students to make more progress.<\/p>\n

For many years, the skill and endeavour of the department meant that practically everyone sat the RS GCSE on just one hour a week, with incredibly impressive outcomes.\u00a0 Changes to the curriculum following the government reviews (particularly with respect to the assessments having a much smaller focus on ethics and much more knowledge recall about religions) have, unfortunately, meant that this is no longer a viable or desirable for all.\u00a0 Therefore, GCSE RS is an optional subject at KS4 and group numbers are good.\u00a0 Our first group of Year 11s where it has been an optional subject will take the exams this summer.\u00a0 They are following the AQA A specification with Sikhism as the focus religion.<\/p>\n

Numbers for Sixth Form are good (but small group sizes are retained).\u00a0 The value added in A Level Philosophy and Ethics last year over the last five years has been impressive; always above national averages and, in some years, considerably so.<\/p>\n
