About Our School

We are a happy and successful High School with a Sixth Form.  We serve the whole community of Droitwich and its surrounding villages, making our intake socio-economically diverse, which our entire staff play up to and thrive upon.  We use our House system alongside our academic work to create a sense of belonging, identity and recognition as well as ambition and optimism.

Our staff are talented and so incredibly supportive of one another.  We have a new Headteacher who is determined to treasure the strengths of the school (we have a ‘Good’ OFSTED rating) as well being ready to address the areas where improvement is needed.  We have adapted our leadership team in order to secure faster progress towards our objectives and we are particularly excited about our plans to make our staff CPD something that other schools are envious of and can learn from.  Our impact on our young people, both scholastically and pastorally, is profound, but we are committed to improving it further.

You are strongly encouraged to read our ‘Information for Prospective Colleagues.’  We expect that it will give you an even deeper feel for the community we serve, our ethos, our culture and what our school is like day to day.

About the Vacancy

One of our Psychology and Sociology teachers has been promoted (internally) to become the Head of Department so we need a new team member to take us back up to a full complement.

Ideally, we would like to appoint to a contract of 1.0 but we are able, if we get two good candidates, to make two appointments at 0.6 or one 0.4 and one 0.6 as a job share (or similar).  The ability to teach Criminology (alongside the Psychology and Sociology) would be an advantage but is not essential.

There is, of course, a full job description and person specification available but the importance of being able to inspire young people both as a tutor and a teacher and a commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues and to continuous professional development should not be underestimated.

Psychology and Sociology are taught exclusively at KS5 (along with Criminology).  All three subjects are popular choices and, given that the department’s classrooms are near the Sixth Form study area, the department is an integral and vibrant part of the Sixth Form.

The department’s track record is very strong.  Value added scores for Psychology and Sociology A Level (Criminology is new this year) are always above zero, often significantly so.  The number of A and A* grades is high and students in the department frequently move on to university to read either Psychology, Sociology or a related subject.

The new Head of Department has the benefit of having a good understanding of the context alongside also having the drive, passion and commitment to further improve the quality of teaching, learning and assessment in the department.  She is also Head of Careers, Advice and Guidance, frequently demonstrating a strong desire to promote social mobility and ensure equity of opportunity for students.  Her leadership in this area, (working with other colleagues) has been exemplary and inspiring and we are very confident that will lead the department with enthusiasm, kindness and vision.

The groups follow the AQA specification for Psychology and Sociology.  The Criminology is a WJEC Level 3 Applied course.
